Ensuring horse health on the Isle of Wight

Ophthalmology
Eye examinations are part of our routine health check and can identify underlying disease such as cataracts and recurrent uveitis as well as treating more obvious, acute conditions such as ulcers. Using an ophthalmoscope and ultrasound allows us to fully evaluate all structures within the eye. We can also perform enucleation when removal of an eye is indicated.

Pre-purchase examinations or vettings
The pre-purchase examination (PPE) is carried out to identify and assess the veterinary characteristics of a horse that could prejudice its suitability for its intended use. This is an essential examination that you should perform before buying a horse. Talk to us for more details.
Acupuncture
This has been a widely used technique in humans for thousands of years and is now utilised in veterinary medicine. Very fine needles are inserted into points of the body to prevent and treat disease. We use western veterinary acupuncture which has a basis in traditional Chinese acupuncture but applies a scientific basis focussing on the horse’s pain and trigger points. Acupuncture is commonly used for musculoskeletal pain but can also be used as an adjunctive treatment in allergies, GI disorders, recurrent uveitis, sweet itch, poor immunity and respiratory disorders.
